On August 22, 2020, at an IGN-hosted DC FanDome panel for the animated film Superman: Man of Tomorrow, it was revealed that the first installment of The Long Halloween will be released in summer 2021, with the second installment following in fall 2021.

Written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale, The Long Halloween, was published as a limited series in 1996. The events of the story are set shortly after Batman: Year One. Over the course of a year, Batman, Gordon, and Dent take on the Falcone crime family and chase down a serial killer known as the Holiday Killer.

The Long Halloween was one of the comics that inspired Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, particularly The Dark Knight (2008), which featured Harvey Dent’s transformation into Two-Face. The Long Halloween storyline has also appeared in multiple Batman video games. Catwoman has an unlockable skin in Batman: Arkham City based on her role in The Long Halloween. A pre-order bonus set for Batman: Arkham Origins featured an extra costume based on his role in The Long Halloween. A side mission in Batman: Arkham Knight that is close to the holiday murders.
