On Thursday, Amazon Prime Video announced that it will exclusively broadcast The final Evangelion film (Evangelion: 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon A Time), the revised version of the film, globally (excluding Japan), beginning on August 13.

The following trailer was revealed by Amazon Prime Video:

Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 is the updated version of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, and it premiered in Japan on June 12 for the film’s “last run.” The updated version includes “minor revisions” to several animation scenes but does not affect the plot of the film.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 film will be available in ten different languages, including English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian. The film will also be available in Japanese with subtitles in 28 different languages. In addition, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance, and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo will also be made available in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance, and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo were the first three films of the tetralogy, and were released in 2007, 2009, and 2012, respectively. The three films were re-released in new MX4D and 4DX screenings on December 2020.

On March 8, 2021, the film was released in Japan, grossing ¥802,774,200 ($7,387,198) on its first day, shattering the IMAX opening day record in Japan. The film grossed ¥3,338,422,400 ($30,596,851) in its first week, ranking #1 in Japan. The film sold 3,961,480 tickets in 21 days and grossed ¥6,078,211,750 ($55,492,310), outperforming 3.0’s total profits of 5.3 billion yen.

It reached 7 billion yen ($63.77 million) in 30 days, finishing four weeks at the top at the Japanese box office. With 8.28 billion yen ($75.72 million), it overtook Shin Godzilla and became Anno’s highest-grossing picture on May 8. On June 15, the 100th day after its release, the film reached 9 billion yen ($81.7 million), a 960.5% gain.
