Rajan Zed Releases Statement Regarding Lord Shiva in Shuumatsu no Walkure Anime

Rajan Zed, the President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, made a statement on Sunday urging Warner Bros. Japan to not trivialize Hindu deity Lord Shiva in its upcoming anime adaptation of Shuumatsu no Walkure (Record of Ragnarok) manga. The manga is written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui and illustrated by Ajichika. The anime will debut in 2021, you can read about it here.

Shuumatsu no Walkure (Record of Ragnarok) manga launched in the Comic Zenon magazine in November 2017. It depicts a character based on the Hindu deity Lord Shiva as well as characters based on other figures from Hindu, Greek mythology, Bible, and Japanese history.

Zed addressed Coamix and urged them “not to trivialize Lord Shiva and other revered Hindu gods and goddesses in its manga”. Rajan Zed has previously released statements regarding –

  1. Depiction of the Hindu deity Krishna in Sega’s Shin Megami Tensei IV.
  2. Depiction of the goddess Kali in the Smite multiplayer online battle arena game.
  3. The character “Apocalypse” in the X-Men: Apocalypse film.
