WWE Announces Partnership With Crunchyroll For New Anime Project

World Wrestling Entertainment aka WWE President Nick Khan announced during the company’s first-quarter 2021 earnings call that the company will be partnering with the anime streaming service known as Crunchyroll for a new anime project of multi-episode anime series.

No further details about the project was revealed. WWE x Crunchyroll could be start of something good because in the past, wrestlers such as Sasha Banks, the New Day, Keith Lee, Ronda Rousey, Rhea Ripley, and others wore anime-inspired costumes or themes into their wrestling styles. Following WWE’s recent announcement, we can expect our favorite wrestlers to appear in the anime project.

The success of Japanese animation, also known as Anime, has soared in recent years. The culture (Weeb / Otaku) is no longer a niche, and it instead appeals to a far larger audience all over the world. Crunchyroll, which was recently acquired by Sony Entertainment in December 2020, is a top option for WWE when it comes to developing new anime series or films, since it is one of the most popular streaming services in the world. Last year, September 2020, WWE Super Star Rey Mysterio teased an upcoming cartoon series on Cartoon Network titled “Rey Mysterio”.

There are many fighting anime series that pay tribute to the world of professional wrestling. Some of the series are Baki The Grappler, Tiger Mask, Kengan Asura, and Ultimate Muscle.
