Cheat Slayer Isekai Manga

On Monday, the editors of Kadokawa’s Monthly Dragon Age magazine announced that the new fantasy manga Isekai Tenseisha Goroshi -Cheat Slayer- (“Killing the People Reincarnated into the Other World -Cheat Slayer-“) had been cancelled after one chapter.

Cheat Slayer isekai manga was written by Homura Kawamoto’s (Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler) and illustrated by Aki Yamaguchi. The manga debuted on June 9 in Monthly Dragon Age.

Issue with Cheat Slayer isekai manga

Fans pointed out the similarity between the villains in the manga with heroic characters in other works. The editorial department at Kadokawa re-inspected and cancelled the manga.

The protagonist of the story passes judgement on those who reincarnate into another world and engage in cheating skills. The villains in the series resemble the protagonists in other isekai series such as
1. Rimuru from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
2. Kirito from Sword Art Online
3. Ainz from Overlord
4. Aqua from KONOSUBA
5. Catarina from My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

Apology from Homura Kawamoto

Following the backlash and cancellation of the Isekai Tenseisha Goroshi -Cheat Slayer-, Homura Kawamoto issued an apology on his Twitter account, which was translated as follows:

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, pain and concern that we have caused to all the related parties.

I regret that I made a work that lacked consideration and caused a situation like this.

In the future, based on that reflection, we will strive to create better works. I’m really sorry.

Mushoku Tensei author tweeted

“Making the so-called isekai cheat protagonists the villains and making them do vile things” ←Not a problem

“Making characters appear who are borrowed from characters from other works” ←Not a problem but a huge problem

“Making characters appear who are recognizably borrowed from characters from other works, and then turning them into villains and making them do vile things” ←Crossing the line

Slime author said

“The Dragon Age editorial department has apologised to me. Because the image of a character is important to an author, I ask that you refrain from overdoing it if you do a parody.”
