On Wednesday, the 27th issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine confirmed that DAYS soccer manga would get a new mini-series. This mini-series side story manga is titled DAYS fragment, which will debut in the magazine’s next issue on June 9.
The mini-series will only have nine chapters and will tell a “fragment” of the main story’s past and future.
Days manga was written by Tsuyoshi Yasuda and it was published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine from April 24, 2013 to January 20, 2021. Kodansha published its chapters in forty-two tankōbon volumes. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga for English digital publication in North America. The Days manga had over 10 million copies in circulation as of December 2020. The manga won the Shōnen category at the 40th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2016.
A 24-episode television anime was aired from July 2, 2016 to December 18, 2016. The anime was directed and written by Kōnosuke Uda at Studio MAPPA. Yoshihiro Ike composed the music for the anime. The anime had 5 OVAs apart for the anime. Crunchyroll streamed the series with English subtitles as it aired in Japan.
The manga is being published digitally in English by Kodansha Comics, who explains the plot as follows:
During his last spring break before starting high school, Tsukushi Tsukamoto meets Jin Kazama, who invites him to a pick-up soccer game. Their chance meeting, and his first-ever experience with soccer, move kind-hearted, timid Tsukushi to enroll in his new high school’s soccer club, which is among the strongest in all of Japan. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, there’s something amazing hidden inside Tsukushi’s heart … and through his trials and tribulations in the soccer club, it’s beginning to blossom!
