On Monday, the “Fullmetal Alchemist 20th Anniversary Special” live-stream event announced that Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist manga is getting a new smartphone game titled “Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile”. An announcement trailer was released by Square Enix and more information will be revealed in Winter 2021.
The manga completed 20 years on July 12, 2021. Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan announced the following things to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the manga.
1. Art Exhibition in Tokyo (winter) and Osaka (spring)
2. New book for the franchise
3. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Episode 1 to 3 stream on YouTube
4. Digital releases of Hiromu Arakawa one-shot mangas
5. Free digital release of volume 1 of Fullmetal Alchemist manga (limited time)
6. Collaboration Cafe
Synopsis
Viz media licensed the manga for North America and they describe the volume 1 of the manga as –
Alchemy: the mystical power to alter the natural world; something between magic, art and science. When two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, dabbled in this power to grant their dearest wish, one of them lost an arm and a leg…and the other became nothing but a soul locked into a body of living steel. Manga
The manga series is written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa and it was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine from July 2001 and concluded in June 2010. The series was compiled into twenty-seven tankōbon volumes.
Anime
The anime was adapted into two separate anime series for television.
Fullmetal Alchemist (2003-2004) is loosely based on the manga with an original ending consisting of 51 episodes. Seiji Mizushima directed the anime at studio Bones (My Hero Academia).
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009-2010) faithfully adapts the original manga and it consists of 64 episodes. Yasuhiro Irie directed the anime at studio Bones.
