Orient Anime Series Set To Premiere In 2022

On Wednesday, Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine announced that Shinobu Ohtaka’s Orient manga will get a television anime adaption that will premiere in 2022.

Orient manga series is written and illustrated by Shinobu Ohtaka. From May 2018 to January 2021, it was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine before being moved to Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in February 2021.

Shinobu Ohtaka is know for Sumomomo Momomo (2004 – 2009), Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (2009 – 2017) and Magi: Adventure of Sinbad (2013 – 2018).

The manga is licensed for English publication in North America by Kodansha USA. Kazé has also licensed the manga in Germany, while Pika has licensed it in France. As of March 17, 2021, twelve tankōbon volumes have been released. Volume 13 will release on August 6.

Kodansha USA describes the show as:

At age 10, best friends Musashi and Kojiro sat in excited silence as Kojiro’s father spun tales of evil demons who preyed on the innocent, and the warriors who defeated them. Practicing swordplay, the two swear an oath to become the strongest in the world. But as they grow up, Kojiro turns cynical, and Musashi comes to realize that he can’t turn back 150 years of demon rule on his own. He’s being called a prodigy with a pickaxe, and he’s almost ready to settle for a life of labor. Yet he can’t shake the feeling that he still has a responsibility to act…and, soon, the injustices of his world will force his hand…
