On Sunday, the panel at Aniplex Online Fest 2021 for “Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night Past & Future” announced that the anime film will premiere in Japan on October 30. In addition, the panel unveiled a new main visual/poster.

The anime is based on the Sword Art Online: Progressive light book series by Reki Kawahara. The novel series debuted in 2012 as a retold version of Kawahara’s original Sword Art Online novels. Sword Art Online: Progressive anime film was announced after the finale of Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld.
The film has been licensed by Aniplex of America for distribution in North American theatres in 2021. ODEX Anime stated on their official YouTube account that the film would be released shortly in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Mongolia. The film will also be distributed in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) areas.
The official English Twitter account for the anime in the United States said that “further information on the U.S. release will be coming soon!”
Sword Art Online is a light novel series written Reki Kawahara and drawn by abec. From 2002 through 2008, Kawahara published the series as a web novel on his website. The light novels debuted on April 10, 2009, under ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint, with a spin-off series debuting in October 2012.
