Kore Yamazaki, author of the manga The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Maho Tsukai no Yome) revealed on his official twitter that the manga is inspiring a new anime project.
The latest anime will be an OAD series named Mahō Tsukai no Yome: Nishi no Shōnen to Seiran no Kishi (The Ancient Magus’ Bride: The Boy of the West and the Knight of the Mountain Haze). The series will feature 3 episodes bundled with the limited editions of 16th, 17th, and 18th volumes of the manga.
The new anime will be directed by Kazuaki Terasawa and animated by Studio Kafka. Studio Kafka is a new animation studio established for the OAD project. Hirotaka Katō and Junichi Matsumoto returns to pen the character and compose the series’ music, respectively. Scripts will be written by Aya Takaha and Yoko Yonaiyama.
A 24-episode anime series was released in 2017 which was animated by Wit Studio (Attack on Titan) and directed by Norihiro Naganuma (Yowamushi Pedal Movie, Blood-C: The Last Dark). The series is available on Crunchyroll and the English Dub Version is available on Funimation.
Yamazaki launched the manga in 2013. It was first serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade magazine but later when the magazine ceased production it was moved to Monthly Comic Garden magazine. The series has 2 spin-offs – The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Wizard’s Blue and The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files.
