Happiness k-drama episode 3 made me realize what a perfect combination we have as leads. One goes into danger headfast and is capable enough to hold on. Until the other arrives and completes the task. Seeing our two lead characters, Yoon Sae Bom and Jung Yi Hyun, handle dire situations well just makes the experience of watching the drama more fun. Happiness k-drama episode 3 starts with the officers opening up the storage container for the man who ran away. Yoon Sae Bom yells out to close the door. But the infected patients are quick and desperate enough to escape.
Yoon Sae Bom realizes that her friend is inside the container, and she rushes off towards it. It is a bit too hasty on her part because there are so many infected patients inside. But she has a one-track mind, and that is to get her friend out of the container. The officer starts to close the door on her as, along with her and the friend, the other infected are ready to get out. Lucky for Yoon Sae Bom, Jung Yi Hyun shows up and gets her out along with her friend. The officers subdue the friend, and the container door is shut tight. There is a charm to Yoon Sae Bom’s character because even though she did a reckless thing. Just seeing her so nonchalant about it and Jung Yi Hyun managing to save her makes you feel good.
They both condemn Han Tae Seok for confining the infected patients and treating them as non-humans. This thought process is a luxury that these characters have in Happiness k-drama episode 3, and Han Tae Seok lets them know that. Honestly, this man could be hiding things rather than showcasing more of what he knows. But he has the brains to follow through in a tough situation with the most logical outcome. Back in the building, Yoon Sae Bom and Jung Yi Hyun meet other residents in the elevator. So far, we have the hazmat suit person who seems to be a quirky character so far. There is the sweet girl who is with her mother. And the doctor is with someone who is not his wife. Jung Yi Hyun notices a red mark on the sleeve of the doctor, which makes him suspicious.
Yoon Sae Bom and Jung Yi Hyun get ready to do a video call with Jung Yi Hyun’s mother. They worry if she will believe in their marriage. Jung Yi Hyun assures that she will. This time there is a noise disturbance from the above flat, and Jung Yi Hyun goes to check it. Meanwhile, Yoon Sae Bom learns that Jung Yi Hyun is indeed sensitive and needs someone to take care of him. So far, I think I like this dynamic where Yoon Sae Bom is just going with the flow without putting many thoughts into what they have. And Jung Yi Hyun harbors a crush on her, but it seems so pure. He does not mind whatever the pace Yoon Sae Bom has set for their relationship. It’s the fun aspect of the drama and something to look forward to as you keep watching.
Jung Yi Hyun confronts the doctor in the above flat along with his lawyer neighbor. He notices the red mark on the doctor’s sleeve and tries to go inside the house. But the woman from the elevator shows up, and the doctor introduces her as his wife’s manager. The doctor lets them know that his wife is not feeling well and that they should try not to make any noises from now on. Later in the night, we have a fun moment between Yoon Sae Bom and Jung Yi Hyun. These moments make your affection grow for them.
The sweet girl’s family seems to be fighting, and it indicates to us that the child might be sick with something. Jung Yi Hyun follows his gut and checks on the doctor’s wife. He enquires about the manager too, because he feels something is amiss. Yoon Sae Bom’s mother calls her and asks her to turn on the TV for news. Her friend was able to send the video to the reporter successfully, and seeing the inside of the container has made people serious about this disease. The government takes action and sends a gathering ban message to everyone and some guidelines to follow. It puts everyone on alert and also frustrates people, as just overcoming one virus and now facing another too soon does not feel right.
Yoon Sae Bom visits the grocery store in the society to stock up on essentials. She wonders why everyone is not doing the same. The store attendant lets her know that these kinds of messages from the government are something they are familiar with. Unless someone dies around them, it does not become serious. It is a true mentality. We have seen that we only get affected when people around us are in danger and we experience that closely. Humans prefer to believe that nothing can ever touch them until it does.
We meet another character, Oh Yeon Ok, in Happiness k-drama episode 3, who introduces herself as the resident representative. She seems to be biased against the people who are rentals in the building. It would be hilarious to see her hold on to this notion of superiority when there would be chaos around her. Jung Yi Hyun meets up with the manager of the doctor’s wife. He seems to be able to get a confession out of her. Back in the apartment, Yoon Sae Bom hears noises from the above flat and goes to check it. Even though the doctor dissuades her, she sees the red mark on his clothes and confronts him.
Eventually, the doctor confesses that his wife is acting crazy and that she tried to bite him. He tells Yoon Sae Bom that she is in the bathroom. When Yoon Sae Bom goes inside the bathroom to check, the doctor locks her in. And then proceeds to call for help. This was weird, I mean if he wanted to call for help anyway then why endanger Yoon Sae Bom. Yoon Sae Bom gets inside the shower space and closes the door. We see the doctor’s wife and she is in her zombie state. But she looks calmer. When Yoon Sae Bom says she will open the door for her and the wife can go to her husband, surprisingly it seems like she is listening.
Yoon Sae Bom opens the door and lets the wife out, who then chases the husband out of the house. This is a recipe for disaster. Of course, I would not want her to be confined in a bathroom with a zombie who could attack her. But I also do not think it was wise for her to let the wife go without somehow trying to apprehend her. Jung Yi Hyun calls right at that moment, asking Yoon Sae Bom to stay away from the flat above. If he only knew. We see the wife chasing the husband and not paying attention to anyone else. She does come into contact with an old lady. Then she comes face to face with the girl Yoon Sae Bom became friends with.
Thankfully, Yoon Sae Bom comes by then and tries to contain the wife. And right at the next moment, Jung Yi Hyun shows up and detains her. This is how we see them being the perfect combo in Happiness k-drama episode 3. Jung Yi Hyun goes to the doctor’s flat to do his investigation, and he finds a lot of things that make him suspicious that it is more than just a case of the virus. He also finds the drugs called “Next” that the wife was taking, which confirms that their usage is what makes people go berserk. Now that people have witnessed the effects of the virus, everyone in society has started loading up on essentials. It’s not true until it’s happening to you. That is the belief humans live with.
The old lady who witnesses the zombie wife tries to tell her family about the incident, but they do not listen to her. This is a complete foreshadowing and we will have to see how it goes. Because of this incident outbreak, Han Tae Seok released a statement regarding the virus and how the infection takes place. Not surprisingly, Oh Yeon Ok shows up at Yoon Sae Bom and Jung Yi Hyun’s apartment and asks them to be quiet regarding the case as it could lower the rates of the apartments. I guess people have to live right. Viruses come and go, people die, but there are still people left who have to live a life, and the reality is that you need to be able to live that life. So I do not begrudge her for this statement, and Yoon Sae Bom seems to agree with her.
Jung Yi Hyun gives the “Next” drug he found at the doctor’s house to Han Tae Seok. Even he comes to the same conclusion that this is the reason for the virus. Han Tae Seok does not comment on it. He did go back to the drug dealer and had the drugs in his possession. Jung Yi Hyun meets with the doctor’s wife. The medic tells him that she is likely to die when she goes back to her normal state. Her head is heavily injured. Jung Yi Hyun seems to have an understanding of what happened, and he lets the wife know he will do his best. On the other hand, we see the doctor starting to clean up all the blood from the bathroom area.
Han Tae Seok kept the drug dealer in the same storage container as other infected people. He interrogates the drug dealer for information on how and to whom he sold the drugs. We see the old lady who saw the infected doctor’s wife is feeling lethargic. Jung Yi Hyun receives the news that the doctor’s wife has passed away and he, along with his partner, gives the go-ahead to arrest the doctor. Jung Yi Hyun tells the doctor about the charges, but he keeps refuting them. To his surprise, the wife’s manager comes and supports Jung Yi Hyun’s claims, which allows Jung Yi Hyun to arrest him.
In Happiness k-drama episode 3, Han Tae Seok visits a woman who is likely his wife, and she is under observation and medicated. In a flashback, we know that his wife is infected. When he comes out of the room, we see the structure of the room, and it looks like he has kept his wife in a different place. He issues an order to cordon off the medic. He goes to meet with Yoon Sae Bom and lets her know the area she lives in will be sealed off. As the distribution of drugs was done in the gym as a vitamin to help with concentration. So it is likely that many people in society must have taken it.
Han Tae Seok knows that giving people the news and then the time before doing a close off will only spread the virus as everyone will run away. It is the most human instinct. Even if you know you have the infection, the unknown scares you, so you’d rather just get away from the place that is containing you. And a virus that makes people bite well will cause an uproar. We see people entering society while huge blocks of shields surround the area. Han Tae Seok lets a resident know that once you enter, you cannot leave. The lockdown was fascinating to see. Yoon Sae Bom chooses to stay inside, but she calls up Jung Yi Hyun and tells him she will protect the apartment.
Ironically, he seems to be inside too, and he sees Yoon Sae Bom outside the elevator. We finally get a sweet moment when Yoon Sae Bom rushes to hug him. Of course, she feels better than he does with her. This at least shows she acknowledges the impact his presence has had on her. And with this couple, we always have a fun thing going on. So, as the couple is hugging, the doctor in handcuffs runs away. Jung Yi Hyun worries about catching him, to which Yoon Sae Bom lets him know that no one can leave the society now. This made me chuckle, because even though we are dealing with something dark, these moments are what makes the drama fun.
A perfect ending to Happiness k-drama episode 3, and it leaves us questioning how the people will fare now in a confined place. The old lady could be affected, so people are not safe. But more than that, the drug was taken by a lot of gym members, which means there is a certainty of people getting infected. This makes me realise that at least the rentals will now think it was good that they were not allowed to use the gym, as it makes them much safer. Oh how the tables have turned now!
